San Joaquin Community Library

The San Joaquin Community Library was established in 1963 with the inauguration of the community center. Originally housed in a one-story building, the library was allocated a space measuring approximately 24’ x 16’. This area accommodates around 20 patrons, along with the librarian.

Over the years, the library has been sustained through the continued support of the Village Councils, successive chairmen, and the Belize National Library Service and Information System. Today, the San Joaquin Community Library is undergoing a revival and development phase, supported by the community, the current Village Council Chairman, and the Belize National Library Service and Information System.

The Village Council Chairman plays a vital role in the library’s development. He has generously provided the space for the library and ensures access to essential utilities, including electricity and water. Additionally, he supports events by donating beverages or tokens for giveaways, depending on the nature of the activity.

The local community actively supports the library in various ways. Patrons regularly donate snacks, sweets, and beverages for library activities, as well as small tokens of appreciation. Occasionally, they also contribute cleaning supplies and used books, helping to maintain and enrich the library’s environment.
