The Carmelita Community Library was first established in December 2018 under the Carmelita Village Council, with support from the Belize National Library Service and Information System (BNLSIS). After a period of dormancy, library services resumed in June 2023 under the sole management of BNLSIS.
The library is located in its own dedicated room within the Carmelita Community Center, situated directly across from the main football field in the village. Its close proximity to a primary school means it regularly welcomes young learners, with the space comfortably accommodating up to 20 children at a time.
The development and sustainability of the library are supported by contributions from both the business sector and the local community, who generously provide donations and tokens for patron giveaways, especially during special activities and events.
The Carmelita Community Library is staffed by one dedicated Community Librarian, Mrs. Tracy Rhaburn, who plays a key role in its day-to-day operations and community engagement.
