The Carmelita Community Library was established in December 2018 under the Carmelita Village Council, with support from the Belize National Library Service and Information System (BNLSIS). After a period of inactivity, the library resumed services in June 2023 under the management of BNLSIS, reaffirming its role as a vital educational resource for the village.
Housed in a dedicated room within the Carmelita Community Center and located directly across from the main football field, the library is easily accessible to residents and nearby students. It can accommodate up to 20 children at a time, making it a welcoming space for young learners.
The library’s development and sustainability are supported by contributions from both the business sector and the local community, who provide donations and tokens for special activities and events. Mrs. Tracy Rhaburn serves as the Community Librarian, overseeing the day-to-day operations and promoting literacy and learning throughout the village.
